Sri Srinivasa Kalyana refers to the Holy marriage of Lord Srinivasa with Goddess Padmavathi. It is one of the most auspicious events described in Bhavishyothara and Adithya Puranas. Reciting, Performing or even participating in Srinivasa Kalyana is considered to be a boon in Kaliyuga. It is only the very fortunate souls who get an opportunity to be a part of it.
The epitomy of Srinivasa Kalyana can be read as follows:-
Sages were performing a yagna on the banks of river Ganga, Narada came and questioned the sages “whom do you think among the Gods is superior and to whom is the offerings of the yagna offered ?” confused sages decided, prayed and designated Brughu Maharshi to seek the answers for the question.
On this quest, Brughu was disappointed by Brahma and Shiva. Reaching Vaikunta the holy abode of Lord Vishnu, Brughu saw Srihari lying on his snakebed and Mahalakshmi doing his padaseva.
Becoming very furious on the outset, Brughu kicked the Vakshastala of Srihari. Srihari’s vakshastala is the dwelling place of Mahalakshmi. Inspite of this atrocity, Srihari honoured Brughu and pleaded for forgiveness. Pleased by Srihari’s noble gesture Brughu returned to Bhooloka and declared Sriman Narayana as the Supremo. He proclaimed that Srihari was supreme among the Trimurthis and said that Narayana was omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient.
Enraged by this incident, Mahalakshmi deserted Vaikunta and moved to Bhooloka. Solitary Narayana also came to Bhooloka. Thirumala temple is sanctum sanctorum Ananda Nilaya is that same place where Lord Narayana in the name of Srinivasa or Venkatesha stayed with the grace of Sri Bhuvaraha the Kshetra Murthy. Bakula Devi became his guardian.
While on a hunting ride, Srinivasa saw Padmavathi, the princess of Akasharaja and Dharani Devi. The divine beauty caught His sight. He fell in love with her at the first sight. The princess too had the same feel. Fever of love pounced Padmavathi. Agony struck the minds of her parents.
Srinivasa too was in the same state. He narrated His plight to Bakuladevi and pleaded and induced her to proceed to Akasharaja’s palace seeking the alliance not relying on anyone, Srinivasa disguise himself as the fortune teller Koravanji and visited the anthapura of Dharani Devi where Padmavathi was nursed.
Incognito Srinivasa told Dharani that Padmavathi had the fever of love and she would die if she is not given in marriage to the Lord Srinivasa. He also described that Narayana had descended as Srinivasa for the sake of Padmavathi. On hearing this the sovereign couple were very much relaxed. This recuperated the body and mind of Padmavathi. At the same time, Bakula Devi reached the palace. She was received gladly by the courtiers. With the consent of Bruhaspathi and Shukamuni, Akasharaja with all love and devoted feel gave the hand of padmavathi to Lord Srinivasa.
